The Academic Selective Entrance Test (ASET), commonly known as the GATE test, is conducted by the Department of Education in March every year. This is a highly competitive test. Based on the data collected by the Department, over the last few years, the total number of available places for the Year 7 academic program is about 14% the of total students that sit the test. There are roughly only 225 spots for the most sought-after school, Perth Modern School, which is about 4% of the total students apply for ASET.
Each year the number of students applying for the ASET test increases significantly, and has soared by 30% in the last four years. Due to several competitive and well-prepared students applying for the ASET each year, the cut off mark for selection in GATE is getting higher. Considering the level of competitiveness, it is vital that students are well prepared for this test.
InstaMind Education offers a comprehensive test preparation course to support students for the Gifted and Talented secondary selective entrance (GATE/ASET) test. Our experienced teachers and tutors use effective strategies and vast resources to ensure students are well prepared for the examination. In addition, we also familiarise them with appropriate language and terminology that they are expected to encounter in the ASET/GATE test. We help students develop their mindset to perform better in a test scenario.
GATE exam preparation classes for Year 5, Term 1 will run from Feb 15, 2026, to April 19, 2026 (a 10-week program). Classes will be held every Saturday from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM in Willetton.
Please note that we can only accept a limited number of students for this course focusing on a small group. If you are interested in registering your child for GATE preparation course and want to join our program in Term 2 of Year 5, it is advisable to contact us in Term 1 of Year 5 to confirm your registration for the next term. Our spots are limited, and we cannot guarantee admission for very student.

- Quantitative Reasoning (Maths)
- Abstract Reasoning (General Ability)
- Reading Comprehension (English-Reading)
- Communicating ideas in writing (English-Writing)
